About the Farm......

The historic main homesite was settled in 1759 and is the first known settlement in the area. 100 rolling acres with 77 acres of fenced and open fields and 23 acres of mature hardwood forest with hiking trail. The one acre pond with dock and fountain is pictured below.

Ideal candidates?

Those who can provide a consistent presence on the farm most of the time day and night.

Retired, non-smoking couple or individual with retirement income, or someone who can work from home to live in the caretaker's cottage on a beautiful 100-acre historic farm interested in a long-term arrangement.

The cottage is 700 sq feet, one level, and can support no more than two people.

Caretakers Duties

Responsibilities would include light maintenance and improvements under no set schedule based on skill set along with providing a consistent presence.

The farm previously functioned as a thoroughbred nursery consisting of a small band of broodmares. Potential plans in the future include a possible return to that equine heritage.

What's the arrangement?

Live on the farm in exchange for light maintenance and improvements that are occasional, while also providing an ongoing daily presence.

Lease terms and scope of responsibility would be discussed once interest in the residency is confirmed.

The arrangement could include significant rent reduction or even waiver based on skill set, reliability, responsibilities and goals for the farm.

Wages or salary are not offered at this time. Pets are welcome.

The farm fields are all under lease for crops and hay and require no crop management. There is a separate main residence present on the farm that is occupied by owner and is about 100 yards from the cottage.

Country but convenient. Located in Woodsboro, Maryland. The farm is only 2 miles from convenient local shopping, banks, churches, grocery and gas in town.

Just 15 minutes to major shopping, restaurants and entertainment in Walkersville and 20 minutes to historic Frederick.

Caretakers Cottage

Simple but cozy. Approximately 700 sq. feet that can accommodate no more than 2 people.

There is a combined main living room/kitchen area and 1 full bath. In addition, there are 3 smaller separate rooms and separate laundry area, along with an outdoor back deck with fenced backyard. There is a dedicated 2-car parking deck in front of the cottage.
